What is postpartum care?

Postpartum care is support that considers the mother as well as the baby.It can include nourishing food, practical help around the home, opportunities to rest, gentle nurturing comforts and the steady presence of someone who understands that the mother is also moving through a significant transition.Postpartum care can look different for every family, so I’m always happy to answer any postpartum care questions you may have.

When is the best time to enquire?

You are welcome to enquire during pregnancy or after your baby has arrived.Arranging support before your due date can provide reassurance and more choice around availability, but you are equally welcome to reach out once you are home and have a clearer sense of what would be helpful.

What happens after I send an enquiry?

I’ll read through what you have shared and get in touch personally to discuss availability, answer any questions and take things from there.Sending an enquiry does not commit you to booking. It is simply the beginning of a conversation.

Question 4

What if my baby arrives earlier or later than expected?

Accepted Answer

That's absolutly fine.If support has been arranged during pregnancy, we will stay in contact and adjust the timing of your visits once your baby arrives, subject to availability.

Question 5

Can I receive support after a caesarean birth?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Nurtured Mother can provide practical, non-medical support as you recover from either a vaginal or caesarean birth.Your medical care remains with your healthcare professionals, while my role is to help make everyday life at home feel more manageable.

Question 6

Can my partner or family be home during a visit?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Partners, older children and visiting family members are welcome to be present.The support fits naturally around your household, without requiring your day to follow a particular routine.

Question 7

Can you stay with my baby while I sleep or shower?

Accepted Answer

Where it feels comfortable and appropriate, I may hold, settle or stay nearby with your baby while you shower, eat or rest.Nurtured Mother is not a babysitting or childcare service, so you will remain at home and available. Any care involving your baby will always be guided by you.

Question 8

Can you prepare meals or collect groceries?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I can prepare simple, nourishing food using ingredients available in your home or help with a meal you have chosen.If you would like groceries collected, we can agree on a list and budget beforehand. Groceries are not included in the visit price and can be prepaid through a collection order or reimbursed at cost, with receipts provided.Any time spent collecting groceries forms part of your booked visit.Please let me know about any dietary needs, allergies or food preferences before your visit.

Question 9

Is Nurtured Mother a medical or midwifery service?

Accepted Answer

No. Nurtured Mother provides non-medical postpartum support and does not replace your doctor, midwife, maternal and child health nurse, lactation consultant or other healthcare professionals.If you need clinical assessment or advice, you will be encouraged to contact the appropriate professional.

What areas do you visit?

Nurtured Mother is based in Mount Barker and supports mothers throughout the Adelaide Hills.Travel within 25 kilometres of Mount Barker is included in the visit price. Support outside this area may also be possible, depending on availability. Any additional travel fee will be discussed before your booking is confirmed.

Question 11

How and when is payment made?

Accepted Answer

Once your visit has been arranged, you will receive an invoice with payment details.Payment for an individual visit is due 48 hours beforehand.The First Forty Days package can be divided into two payments, with the first due when your support is confirmed and the second before your first visit.Gift vouchers are paid for at the time of purchase.

What if I need to change or cancel a visit?

I understand that life with a new baby can be unpredictable.Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice wherever possible. With sufficient notice, your payment can be transferred to another available date.Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a fee of 50% of the scheduled visit. Birth, illness and unexpected medical circumstances will always be considered compassionately.If anyone in your household is unwell or potentially infectious, please let me know before I arrive so we can decide whether to reschedule.If I need to cancel, you will be offered another suitable date or a full refund for that visit.

Can I purchase support for someone else?

Yes. Gift vouchers are available for friends and family who would like to give a mother practical care and support after birth.I can help you choose a suitable option, and the mother can then contact me to arrange her visit.

Question 14

Do I need to be struggling to receive postpartum care?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. You do not need to be overwhelmed or at breaking point before receiving care.Support can be thoughtfully included from the beginning, helping the early postpartum period feel gentler, more supported and less demanding. You are also welcome to enquire later if you have reached a point where you realise you need more help around you.

Is Nurtured Mother care only for first-time mothers?

Accepted Answer

No. Every postpartum experience is different, whether this is your first baby or you already have other children.Mothers with older children may need support in different ways, particularly while recovering, caring for a newborn and continuing to meet the needs of the rest of the family.

What does gentle nurturing touch or massage involve?

Accepted Answer

Gentle nurturing touch is offered as a small part of the wider care, always with your comfort and consent in mind. This may include a soothing hand, foot, shoulder or head massage, or simply warm, calming touch where it feels supportive. It is not a therapeutic or clinical massage service, but another way of helping you feel rested, cared for and more at ease.
